As Miley Cyrus's godmother, Dolly Parton, once said, "The higher the hair, the closer to god." On the occasion of the 2024 Grammys, Cyrus took that timeless advice to heart. The pop singer, who is nominated for six(!) awards, strode down the red carpet with a sky-high mane of curls that will be housed forevermore under the word “volume” in the dictionary. Styled by her longtime hairdresser Bob Recine, Cyrus is taking one of the biggest beauty risks we've seen on this year's Grammys red carpet with the back-combed wall of hair. The look echoes a style that Cyrus posted on her Instagram earlier this week, so we may be witnessing the beginnings of a new signature 'do.
“This last year l featured Miley‘s wet look for hair," Recine said in a statement. “For the Grammys, we decided we wanted something dry and bigger, more fuller hair, but sexy and tousled and touchable.” He created the look with a full suite of Nexxus products, starting with the Epic Shine Anti-Humidity Spray and Prep & Protect Head Defense Spray, both applied on damp hair. Then — no surprise here — we reached for the hair spray. Recine opted for a medium-hold spray, XXL Volume Hairspray, which he applied section by section as the hair dried. From there, he teased the roots, and “added a few Velcro rollers on top to get that sexy bounce.”
The bouffant would already be bringing the drama, but Cyrus has ratcheted her beauty look up one more notch with standout slashes of bronzer that echo the bronde highlights in her hair and the gold of her Maison Margiela chainmail gown. The look is finished with a few more subtle makeup accents, including her feathered brows and a light lipstick that accentuates her natural tone.
Cyrus is performing her Grammy-nominated song “Flowers” at the awards tonight, and we can't wait to see her beauty look in motion. Will her hair stand still, like the hairspray-fueled bouffants of decades past? Or will these waves sway across the stage with her? Either way, she's pulled off one of the most unforgettable looks of this year's Grammys carpet — and maybe just reintroduced one more new old-school hair trend for 2024.
